An OTA stands for Online Travel Agency. Usually, any booking channels is being referred to as an OTA. Think about Booking.com, AirBnB, Expedia etc.

You might also have heard about the term GDS. A GDS (Global Distribution System) is a little bit different in comparison to an OTA. It is a travel agency that works on behalve of large companies. These services are hired to book entire trips for their customers which also includes for example flights.

The difference is thus that a GDS is B2B whereby an OTA is B2C.

As a boutique hotel or B&B, you often are not accepted by GDSs as your cannot offer enough rooms. It is also rather expensive to be connected. Good examples of GDSs are Amadeus, TravelPort and Galileo. Visit their website if you want to find out more about their services.
